Installation tips

Interior panelling

When installing interior panels you will need:

  • Hammer/brad pistol
  • Wooden ruler
  • Plumb line
  • Square
  • Level
  • Saw
  • Driftpin/nail punch
  • Nails/screws
  • Screwdriver/drill

General
Panels from Dalapanel are delivered with a moisture level of 15% +/-2%. Therefore, we recommend that the panels be allowed to acclimate in the room where they will be installed for at least three days, provided that the room is dry and has regular indoor temperature. Wood is a living material that changes with the humidity of the seasons, humidity, therefore, expansion and contraction do occur.

Installation
The panels are always installed at a distance of maximum 600 mm. Any joints which do not have tongued and grooved ends shall be spliced on a joist. We recommend that the ends be glued. The panel is nailed in the angled edge on the tongue side with a minimum of 45 mm galvanized brads. Always check the panels before they are installed. Possible errors or to be cut away, or alternatively, sort the defective panels.

Surface-treatment white wax
The panels are treated on the front and edges with 100% environmentally friendly water-based paint with the addition of wax and UV solvents. The white pigments will eventually degrade and it is expected that there may be some reversal on on the panels, but they can always be treated later on.

Exterior panels

When installing interior panels you will need:

  • Hammer
  • Wooden ruler
  • Square
  • Level
  • Saw
  • Driftpin/nail punch
  • Nails/screws
  • Screwdriver/drill

Installation
Nailing of the panels should be done with a hammer and galvanized wire nails. Avoid using a nail gun because the nails can easily penetrate too deeply into the panel boards and contribute to moisture penetration via the nail head.

Panel ends should be double-nailed/screwed at a distance of 100–150 mm from the end. It is appropriate to pre-drill the nail holes at the panel ends in order to reduce the risk of cracks, or alternatively, use self-drilling panel screws.
