Apart from aesthetics, there is a lot to consider when it comes to choosing a floor.
Where should the floor be? At home in the kitchen, hallway, bedroom or maybe in a public environment with high wear and tear? A simple rule is that the harder the wear and tear will be, the harder the wood you should choose.
Another important factor is the substrate on which you will lay the floor. On concrete, joists, chipboard or on top of an existing floor?
Solid wood floors are best laid either directly on joists or on an existing subfloor of wood, chipboard or similar. Solid floors are screwed into the subfloor and the parquet is easily installed with a folding joint. Different subfloors require different solutions and thicknesses of flooring, and in some cases a moisture barrier may also be needed.
